Daniel Edward Garrett (1869-1932), teacher, lawyer, and Democratic congressman, was born in Springfield, Tennessee, to Edward C. and Susan Olive (Haddox) Garrett. After teaching while studying law, he opened a legal practice in his home town in 1893. Garrett earned a seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives (1892-1896) and in the Tennessee Senate (1902-1906).
